About Telemedicine

When it comes to healthcare service and delivery, security, reliability and responsiveness are paramount.

Network Technology

OTN integrates several communications networks to provide secure and confidential telemedicine services to patients and providers across the province. Integrated networks include dedicated health networks like e-HealthOntario+, community-based networks like LARG*net++ as well as public internet and commercial phone system networks.

On top of this multi-network connectivity, OTN has overlaid a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) architecture that ensures secure, manageable and quality-controlled connections between patients and their healthcare providers.

Network Equipment & Applications

untitled-1_255Videoconference equipment and peripheral devices are the backbone enabling OTN to provide delivery of high quality, secure and reliable clinical sessions.

Videoconference units operate like two-way television sets with a remote control device that turns on the equipment, adjusts the volume and picture and operates the remote and local cameras.

Depending on the reason for a visit, different peripheral devices are used to allow providers to examine patients. These include specialized patient exam cameras, digital stethoscopes and otoscopes.

In addition to videoconferencing clinical events, OTN has a webcasting centre. The webcasting centre is used to host and deliver live and archived healthcare education events and a variety of healthcare administration meetings.

Network Standards

To ensure smooth operation of OTN videoconference events, OTN establishes and maintains standards for videoconference systems and peripheral devices. Technologies and equipment come from suppliers whose equipment is certified and fully supported by the OTN technical service team.

Finally, the OTN Service Desk is available through a toll-free phone number for support and trouble shooting at member or network partner request.
